The Challenge

Our proven model addresses both these growing needs in our state: the talent gap and the opportunity gap.

If we act now, we can ensure that the next generation of students can attend college — and that businesses have a diverse and talented workforce to fill essential STEM and health care jobs.

The Unmet Need

More students need support, and WSOS must be ready to provide it now and in the future.

To support the next generation of students, we must act now. By 2030, we aim to significantly increase the number of Opportunity Scholars earning credentials that open doors to Washington’s high-demand jobs.

The Tomorrow, Today campaign will give WSOS the power to:

“Receiving a scholarship meant getting one step closer to becoming a software engineer at Microsoft. Also, it allowed me to work less hours and so I can focus more on my studies. WSOS helped me find [an] internship because they sent weekly emails and they also help me build my LinkedIn profile. And then through there I got more in contact of all these companies that are hiring, just like Microsoft.”

“Growing up, I didn’t really have a lot of opportunities to have a pediatrician, and I always wanted to have one. So, I was kind of thinking like maybe I could be that for my community because I plan to stay here in Washington and stay rural.”

“Coordinated Care is committed to finding innovative solutions to address local healthcare workforce shortages, and one of those solutions is supporting the next generation of talent. WSOS has a proven-track record of supporting first generation, students of color, and underrepresented students and this aligns with our goal to also increase diversity in our health care workforce.”

“One can’t ignore the data showing the positive impact WSOS is having in our communities—from the incredible outcomes for the Opportunity Scholars who have higher graduation rates than their peers to the economic development benefits it provides to our state.”

“I devote a lot of time to working with charitable organizations and none gives me the feeling of making a direct impact on people like WSOS.  Whether I am mentoring scholars or reading and scoring essays or doing simple fundraising activities, the feeling of creating opportunity, of contributing meaningfully to the value chain of education and employment for others, is always in sharp focus. “
