Description:

The Seattle Youth Employment Program (SYEP) supports young people (ages 16 to 24) from qualifying-income households and communities that experience racial, social, and economic disparities. The goal is to increase youth and young adults' ability to pursue careers that pay well and are meaningful to them.

What is the Seattle Youth Employment Program?

The Seattle Youth Employment Program (SYEP) features two programs to help you develop skills for life and work that will help achieve your current and future goals:

  • Learn & Earn Program (Foundations / Pathways): Participants identify professional interests, gain marketable skills, are exposed to various career fields, and build their social network. Students receive stipends based on their quarterly participation during the school year.
  • Internship Program: Participants are placed in professional and/or structured paid work settings within City departments, local businesses and non-profit agencies to apply their knowledge, gain hands-on experience, develop professional connections, and build their resume. Participants will be paid no less than Seattle's minimum wage at $21.30 per hour.

What is the Internship Program?

  • Land a 6-8 week paid internship that matches your skills, career interests, and availability
  • Receive pre-employment training and work experience to aid in your professional growth and career exploration
  • Get professional support from a trusted mentor throughout the program
  • Gain practical experience to build your resume and potential connections to advance your career or education
  • Interns will be paid $21.30 per hour, unless otherwise communicated by the assigned employer.
  • Seattle Public Schools students may qualify for 0.5 Career and Technical Education (CTE) credit through Seattle Public Schools. 

Applying for the internship

  • Create an account and complete the online application. (Review the help guide for assistance.)
  • SYEP staff will review submitted applications within a week of their receipt, and applicants will be notified via email of eligibility or if they are missing eligibility documents. (Review eligibility requirements below.) 
  • By Monday, May 18, applicants will be notified via email if they were accepted into the program and the next steps in the placement process.
  • 250 youth and young adults, ages 16 to 24, will be selected by lottery to participate.
  • Those selected will participate in in-person, virtual, or hybrid (depending on the needs of the employer) career-readiness learning activities before the internship start date.
  • SYEP staff will work with participants to find an internship placement that meets their interests. Internships will be between six and eight weeks with City departments, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), or Private Sector employers.
  • Applicants should check their email regularly for important communication and updates. Failure to do so may risk opportunity to participate in the placement process and program.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be between the ages of 16 and 24 years old at the start of the program.
  • live within the Seattle city limits (click the link to verify) or attend Seattle public schools or Seattle Colleges (Seattle Central College, South Seattle College or North Seattle College).
  • live in a household with income at or below 80% Area Median Income (AMI). See AMI table below.

What you will bring to the positions:

The Computer Science/Engineering Intern’s essential functions include:

  • Provide support for ongoing department projects.
  • Participate in project related construction and outage activities.
  • Execute individual CS/CE projects as assigned.
  • Participate in the development of project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Assist with and develop specifications in support of projects.
  • Prepare and organize project documentation.
  • Other tasks as assigned by departmental mentor.

EDUCATION   

Pursuing BS degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with strong Math and Physics emphasis.

EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to program in a high-level language. Programming skills in Python or C#.Net a plus.
  • Excellent problem solving, investigative, experimental, and statistical analysis skills.

Background:

Our mission at the King County Environmental Laboratory (KCEL) is to produce high-quality field and laboratory data. Many of our programs track long-term environmental health and water quality. Some of these projects started more than 40 years ago. These long-term datasets help our scientists to understand how our environment changes over time and to identify potential problems. Other projects we work on are shorter term. These are like snapshots of what is happening in our environment so we can understand and protect our natural resources better.

Every year we test thousands of water, sediment, and other types of environmental samples from all over King County and surrounding areas. The data we produce are used in environmental studies, to enforce environmental laws, and make resource management decisions.

Our data scientists use it to:

  • Track regional water quality
  • Design and operate wastewater treatment plants
  • Track wastewater treatment plant discharge permit compliance
  • Enforce industrial waste laws
  • Create plans and programs to protect and improve local water bodies
  • Take part in studies with other governmental and research organizations

Internship Purpose:

The purpose of this internship will be to provide the college student with hands-on laboratory skills, and knowledge in Tissue, Water and Solid sample analysis.  The intern will start tissue collection and homogenization and then progress to hands-on analysis of samples from a variety of projects.

Work Experience:

The applicant does not need to have work experience outside of college course work in science, however, since the intern will be working in a laboratory setting, there will be some requirements that need to be met for safety concerns.  These requirements are outlined in both State and Federal safety regulations.  Generally, students will be expected to have had some training in laboratory safety through their college courses that have lab classes.

Day in the Life

Northwest Cascade has an immediate need for a Project Management Intern to join its team. The primary responsibility of the intern will be to assist Project Managers in the performance of their duties. The Project Manager will also have the opportunity to:

  • Plan, organize and orchestrate construction projects in an efficient manner.
  • Perform project take-offs
  • Prepare project submittals
  • Accurate estimating of public and private work projects
  • Solicit subcontractor and/or supplier information and pricing
  • Ensure proper scheduling and coordination of resources
  • Efficient coordination and interface of subcontractor field activities on assigned projects, including job scheduling activities
  • Review project specifications and ensure contractor and sub-contractor compliance
  • Interface with customers to ensure that their needs and definitions of quality are met
  • Evaluate proposals and contracts to determine client needs and compliance with company standards
  • Foster, promote and ensure good standing relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Responsible for job profitability, project start-up, budget tracking and schedule development updates and adherence
  • Ensure that all paperwork, i.e., submittals, billings, payments to subcontractors, government reporting, are completed and submitted in a timely manner
  • Assist in estimating new projects
  • Know and maintain safety standards as established and required by the State of Washington and company policy

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications & skills:

  • Student in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
  • Outstanding work ethic and desire to learn.
  • General understanding of our the heavy construction industry including a variety of pre-construction work, such as planning, design and constructability review, value engineering, and scheduling.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Programs.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The inspector 2 is responsible for the handling, measurement, visual inspection, correction, and cleaning of parts. May carry out inspection duties in any or all the following areas: incoming parts, in-process, final inspection before shipment and in audits.   • Provides clinical services within the scope of practice, as defined by the state laws governing the practice of nursing, in accordance with the plan of care, and in coordination with other members of the health care team.
  • Makes the initial and|or comprehensive nursing evaluation visit, determines primary focus of care, develops the plan of care within State specific guidelines, and submits accurate, complete, and timely documentation, per policy.
  • Regularly evaluates and re-evaluates (as warranted by changes in condition but at least every 60 days) the patient's nursing needs.
  • Performs patient comprehensive assessments at designated time points and develops the appropriate POC, in collaboration with physician orders.
  • Ensures patients meet home health eligibility and medical necessity guidelines as defined by payer source.
  • Initiates, develops, implements and makes necessary revisions to the plan of care in collaboration with the physician and other health care professional's involved in care.

As the estimator, you will prepare bids from $500k - $10M in collaboration with the lead estimator. Our typical project size is ~$3M and most of our work is public works. TLG is on the lookout for experienced CFD engineers to join our elite team of talented problem solvers. Our team supports a variety of aerospace development programs from infancy through certification. Applications range from low-speed all-electric airplanes to hypersonic aircraft and space planes.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you would provide technical expertise and analytical solutions to support the design, development, and certification of new aircraft and aircraft modifications. Working independently and as part of a small, fast-moving team on advanced development projects, you’ll find your collaboration and communication skills are an essential part of the job.  Applicants should have a theoretical knowledge of aerodynamics, exhibit formidable scripting and numerical problem-solving skills, and be proficient with MATLAB or other transferable programming language. Experience with running a commercial CFD program in a production environment is preferred.

Expectations:  Engineers in this role may be expected to perform the following tasks:

  • CAD manipulation to support aerodynamic analysis

Experience:  Entry Level to 10+ years of applied experience in Flight Sciences Engineering.
