Washington State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS) is a first-of-its-kind public-private partnership that builds pathways into high-demand Washington careers for Washington students. We reduce barriers to education and training and launch Washington students into high-demand careers.
Baccalaureate Scholarship (BaS) 101
The Baccalaureate Scholarship supports Washington students seeking a bachelor’s degree in STEM or health care. If selected for the scholarship, you could receive up to $22,500 in financial aid and access to mentorship, career training, and other services to help you launch your career in Washington state. Opportunity Scholars can use the money to cover tuition and other necessities like housing, transportation, food, and more.

The Baccalaureate Scholarship supports Washington students who want a bachelor’s degree in STEM or health care fields. If selected for the scholarship, you could receive up to $22,500 in financial aid and access to mentorship, career training, and other services to help you launch your career in Washington state. The financial aid you receive can be used to cover tuition, along with other necessities like housing, transportation, food, and more.
The Baccalaureate Scholarship opens annually in early January and closes at the end of February.
To be eligible, students must be interested in STEM and health care majors. Students must live in Washington and have a 2.75 GPA in their current high school or college or have a passing GED score. You cannot apply for the Baccalaureate Scholarship if you already have a bachelor’s degree. More information can be found on the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship website.
Note: If you’re interested in starting your education at a two-year college and transferring to finish your bachelor’s degree, then the Baccalaureate Scholarship is for you!

If you’re selected, you could receive up to $1,500 per quarter in financial aid as well as access to mentorship, career training, and other opportunities that will help you launch your career in Washington state. The financial aid you receive can cover tuition and other necessities like housing, transportation, food, childcare, and more.
This scholarship accepts applications three times a year to support students starting their program in fall, spring, and winter quarters.

Graduate (GRD) Scholarship 101
The GRD Scholarship was created to build a pipeline of nurse practitioners who can help fill the critical shortages of trained professionals in Washington’s health care system. Recipients receive up to $25,000 in scholarship funding over up to three years to support their practitioner-based Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at one of Washington’s six graduate nursing schools. Eligible program tracks include Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP- primary care), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP-Primary care).
The GRD scholarship aims to increase the number of historically underrepresented health care providers in Washington’s Medically Underserved Areas (MUA) and Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA). Opportunity Scholars complete at least half of their required clinical hours in a Washington state MUA or HPSA and intend to practice in a Washington state MUA or HPSA for at least two years after program completion.

Are you a Washington resident interested in serving as a nurse practitioner in Washington communities who need health care services the most? Washington State Opportunity Scholars in our Graduate Scholarship (GRD) program receive up to $25,000 in total funding towards a practitioner-based MSN or DNP degree in AGNP-primary care, FNP, PMHNP, or PNP-primary care. Funding can be used at any of the six Washington state graduate nursing universities to cover tuition, fees, and other costs, such as housing, transportation, food, and more. The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS) for MSN and DNP nurse practitioner students is taking applications! The Graduate Scholarship (GRD) provides students in their first year of a practitioner-based MSN or DNP program with up to $25,000 in scholarship funding for up to three years. Funding is divided evenly over the awarded Scholar’s remaining DNP or MSN program terms, beginning the fall term following selection. The funding is flexible and can be used to cover tuition, fees, and other costs, such as housing, transportation, food, and more.
GRD supports Washington MSN or DNP students currently in their first year pursuing a specialty in Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP-Primary care), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP–Primary care).
