OPERATING BUDGET DASHBOARD PROJECT INTERNSHIP 

Section: Finance and Administration 

Background: 

This internship is structured strictly as a professional learning opportunity rather than a means to expand county service delivery. The primary objective of this internship is for the student to gain hands-on experience in financial data analytics, and business intelligence tool design (e.g., in Power BI or Excel) within a governmental context. 

While the student will build a “prototype” Operating Cost Dashboard for the Capital Delivery Section, the dashboard is designed to help the student gain data visualization experience. They will not be responsible for ongoing routine financial reporting or data maintenance; those responsibilities will still sit with the Business and Finance Officer IV. 

Internship Purpose: 

Provide the student with hands-on experience in governmental accounting and operational finance by analyzing cost drivers, evaluating resource allocation, and designing a strategic cost-tracking dashboard for section leadership decision making.

Desired skills or requirements: 

• Relevant coursework in economics, public finance, or data analytics. 

• Proficiency in spreadsheet applications (advanced formulas, data structuring) and a basic competency of data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau. 

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze complex governmental financial data. 

• Clear written and verbal communication skills 

Additional Information: 

The student selected for this internship will be able asked to work 20 hours per week. 

To be qualified, you must be a college student currently enrolled. You will need to provide proof of enrollment. 

Wage Information 

Intern II: $22.00-$27.89
