This volunteer opportunity is a chance to make a meaningful impact by helping students who are striving to pursue careers in STEM and health care fields. 

Why Your Help Matters 

Every student applying for a WSOS scholarship submits short-answer essays as part of their application. These essays are more than just words on a page. They’re windows into each student’s journey, showcasing perseverance, personal growth, and ambitious goals for the future. Essay reviewers play an essential role in ensuring that every applicant’s essay receives the thoughtful attention it deserves. 

By volunteering to review and score these essays, you’ll play a crucial role in selecting future leaders and supporting WSOS’s mission to empower scholars across Washington. 

What to Expect 

• Time Commitment: Reviewing essays typically takes about two to four hours. 
• Training & Support: You’ll receive a scoring rubric and training on how to evaluate applicant responses. 
• Online Access: Once applications are received, you’ll receive access to an online portal where you can review your batch of essays at your convenience. 
• Be Inspired: This is a unique opportunity to connect with the voices of Washington’s future leaders — people who are passionate about making a difference in STEM and health care.
