WSOS receives Right Now Grant from BECU Foundation

Washington State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS) has received a $300,000 Right Now Grant from the BECU Foundation to help fund scholarships for 30 Scholars and expand outreach across Washington state.
The investment will support Scholars in our Baccalaureate Scholarship (BaS) and Career & Technical Scholarship (CTS) programs as they pursue education and prepare for living-wage careers in high-demand health care, STEM, and trade fields.
This grant builds on a partnership rooted in students’ financial well-being and long-term success. Starting in 2019, the BECU Foundation has contributed more than $1.4 million to WSOS, supporting more than 190 Scholars through the BECU Foundation Opportunity Scholarship. The Right Now Grant adds to that already impactful tally of support.
Students’ goals haven’t changed, but the costs of pursuing them are on the rise. Housing, food, transportation, and other expenses can make it difficult to stay enrolled and complete a credential. With partners like the BECU Foundation, WSOS helps ease those pressures, giving Scholars room to focus on their education and the next steps in their career journey.
The Right Now Grants program was created in response to affordability pressures facing communities across Washington. For WSOS, this investment continues a shared commitment to helping students access education, stay on the path to completion and prepare for the high-demand careers they want and Washington needs.
Hear from WSOS Executive Director Isabel Muñoz-Colón about our work and what this investment makes possible.
The grant will also fund expanded outreach and scholarship promotion throughout Washington, particularly in rural communities. These efforts will help students furthest from opportunity learn about scholarships available to them and complete the financial aid forms they need to fund their education.
By supporting scholarships and outreach, the BECU Foundation is helping students discover and pursue pathways to education and high-demand careers that can strengthen their financial futures and their communities. We’regrateful for this continued investment in Opportunity Scholars and Washington’s future.
