Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Government Services Department seeks a professional, innovative, and detail-oriented individual for our Power/Electrical Engineering Intern position in Pullman, WA!

We develop custom products and do both basic and applied research for the United States Government. If you enjoy diving deep on the fundamentals of power systems and applying creative problem-solving techniques to challenging problems, you’ll enjoy working in our department. We’ve got an array of interesting research going on that will give you a unique opportunity to put your schoolwork into practice and work hands-on with state-of-the-art test equipment and software.

We’re looking for a full-time summer intern with the option to continue on part-time during subsequent semesters. Both undergraduate and graduate interns are welcome. You must be a U.S. Citizen to work in the Government Services Department.

As a Power Engineering Intern, a typical day might include the following:  

  • Provide technical support to SEL staff & customers.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge in SEL processes and technologies.
  • Perform testing on new and existing technology.
  • Document and communicate test results. 

This job might be for you if: 

  • You are a US Citizen.
  • You have two to three years undergraduate studies in electrical engineering, with an emphasis in power systems.
  • You have the ability and willingness to work full-time during the summer and part-time during the school year.
  • You have the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

We would like to see:

  • Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems.
  • Basic understanding of signals and systems.
  • Working knowledge of modern test equipment (e.g power supplies, digital oscilloscopes).
  • Practical knowledge of SEL protective relays & automation controllers.

What You Will Do

  • Perform a variety of skilled trades, maintenance and technical tasks on aircraft carrier elevators, cargo-handling systems and associated equipment, including aircraft elevators, weapons elevators and vertical stores conveyors.
  • Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.

Join our BMS teams for a 10-week summer internship to gain hands-on experience. The position requires 0-2 years of cGMP manufacturing experience is desired or equivalent in work experience or education. Proven experience working on teams where combined contribution, collaboration, and results were expected. Key Responsibilities
 

  • Works on routine manufacturing assignments per written procedures, where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.
  • Adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Weighs and checks raw materials. Assembles, cleans and sanitizes process equipment, monitors processes.
  • Completes work instructions and maintains clean room environment to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Trains for proficiency in the operation of primary production equipment within the assigned functional area.
  • Trains for proficiency in process systems (i.e. Syncade MES and Oracle interfaces) and some supporting business systems (i.e. Oracle, ETQ, BMRAM etc.).
  • Support procedural protocol activities in the Manufacturing Sciences Laboratory.
  • Assists in maintaining material and components inventory level.
  • Supports safe work environment.
  • Work in teams and have continual interaction with members of his/her team as well as other manufacturing teams throughout the production process in order to exchange information regarding the batch(s) in process.
  • Works on assignments that are routine in nature where judgment is required in resolving problems and making routine recommendations.


Qualifications & Experience
 

  • Candidates who are currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a field related to chemical engineering, bio-chemical engineering, or biology preferred.
  • Working knowledge of aseptic technique.

Position Summary

The Cancer Immunology and Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center (CICT TRC) in Seattle, Washington is focused on leveraging biological, translational, and clinical datasets to develop the next wave of cell therapies and immuno-oncology drugs. 

The CICT TRC is highly committed to supporting local STEM initiatives that expose individuals from all backgrounds to careers in scientific disciplines through a Summer Internship Program for the summer of 2025. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to diverse areas of the drug discovery process and have a hand in bringing novel therapeutics to cancer patients. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with at least 2 years of study towards a bachelor’s degree from accredited Colleges and Universities to participate in a 10-week, full-time paid summer research program. Interns will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to drug discovery programs within the cancer immunology and cell therapy pipeline at BMS.

The interns will work directly with a discovery program lead and a technical advisor to complete a defined project. Students will benefit from the state-of-the art laboratories at our research site and gain critical knowledge of the core techniques used for biological assays necessary for target identification/validation, molecule screening, and functional analysis of drug candidates in the early and late stage discovery pipeline.  The intern will have the opportunity to participate in departmental and project team meetings to gain valuable insights into the drug discovery and development process, and interact with individuals with a range of scientific and pharmaceutical leadership backgrounds. The internship will conclude with a formal poster session where the student will have the opportunity present their findings to the entire site.

  • Gain background knowledge of the assigned project by reading scientific literature
  • Work with program scientists to understand experimental design and execution
  • Learn and perform laboratory techniques required for project completion
  • Meet with scientific advisors on a regular basis to review progress
  • Maintain documentation of experiments in an electronic lab notebook
  • Analyze experimental data and present project findings at the conclusion of the program

Qualifications & Experience

  • Candidates must be in enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program majoring in Biology (e.g. Immunology, Cell Biology), Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Must have completed 2 years of study towards a bachelor’s degree by June 2025
  • Candidates should have basic laboratory skills (lab course, academic lab, or industry lab)
  • Candidates should have strong communication skills (written and verbal), and the ability to work in a collaborative environment

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $21.00/hour - $29.00/hour. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed. Final individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience and education level.

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity for a Warehouse Lead at the Webster Forest Nursery.  Seedlings from Webster Forest Nursery are planted to reforest lands across the Pacific Northwest. The Warehouse Lead oversees the warehouse cold storage, inventory control, order fulfillment, and shipping and handling operations of the forest seedlings produced at Webster Forest Nursery. Annual seedling inventories include over one hundred inventory codes identifying roughly 12-14 million seedlings. This position will collaborate with greenhouse and bareroot production staff to carry out cyclical nursery operations. The work performed by this position supports the agency’s mission and guiding principles to manage WA State’s resources for the beneficiaries of the trust so that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from Washington’s rich natural heritage.

Responsibilities

Duties vary seasonally. The ideal candidate’s organizational skills and effective communication allow them to pivot in a dynamic, fast-paced production environment. 

  • Leads a team of warehouse operators and works closely with production staff in lifting, packing, and shipping operations.
    • Safely operates 3500-5000 lbs forklift daily to move inventory into and out of cold storage, including loading and unloading refrigerated trailers.
    • Maintains physical organization of cold storage facilities and reconciles physical seedling inventory using database software.
    • Plans and carries out timely order processing, considering biologically appropriate cold storage regimes. 
    • Interacts with nursery customers in a respectful manner. Provides answers and/or references to commonly asked questions about forest seedling care and handling.
  • Assists in transplanting operations by organizing, handling, and delivering the appropriate inventory.

  • Work is primarily in cold storage, a processing facility, and an agricultural setting outdoors, in all weather conditions. Must be able to work in coolers/freezers. Must be able to operate forklifts intermittently throughout an 8-hour workday. Must have the ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds without the aid of equipment. Most of the work is performed around large semi-trucks, pedestrians, public cars, and farm equipment. Must maintain situational awareness. Must be able to walk on rough, uneven terrain in all weather conditions and effectively communicate in a large industrial setting.
  • Minimal travel is required. Mostly to attend offsite training or visit other facilities for technology exchange.
  • A valid unrestricted driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function.   • Must have Forklift certification.

Responsibilities

  • Gains hands-on experience with various software development tools and programming languages. 
  • Works closely with manager, mentors, and a group of interns to evaluate requirements, estimate costs, and create and implement features and services. 
  • Experiences core tech disciplines (Software Engineering, Product Management, and Technical Program Management). 

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Must be enrolled in second year of a 4-year undergraduate degree program at time of application. 
  • Completed an Introduction to Computer Science course (or equivalent class) as well as one semester of calculus (or equivalent) by the start of the program. 

Preferred Qualifications

The base pay range for this internship is USD $25.08 - $46.08 per hour. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $36.12 - $51.31 per hour.

We're currently seeking an experienced, skilled dental lab technician, with experience fabricating dentures from start to finish , to work full time in our on-site AD&I denture lab.
