The Avista Foundation has a long-standing commitment to strengthening communities through their support of education and local initiatives. Their partnership with WSOS has enabled us to support Opportunity Scholars as they navigate their education and prepare for high-demand careers in STEM, health care, and trades.

Avista Foundation’s Investment in Washington’s Future

Since 2020, the Avista Foundation has supported 13 Career & Technical students from within the counties Avista Utilities serves through the Avista Foundation Opportunity Scholarship at WSOS. This investment has been life-changing for these students, providing the financial support and resources they need to succeed in their studies and pursue careers that address the pressing needs in our state. 

As a result of their generous contribution, Avista Foundation Opportunity Scholars are gaining the education and hands-on experience required for Washington’s most critical workforce sectors, including health care, STEM, and the trades. These students are not only transforming their own futures but are poised to make a profound impact on their communities and the state’s economy. 

The transformative power of the Avista Foundation’s investment cannot be overstated. By helping students like Benjamin and Ryan, they are directly contributing to the strength and vitality of Washington’s future workforce. 

Benjamin, Avista Opportunity Scholar, Career & Technical Scholarship, Machinist, Spokane County: 

“The Avista Foundation Opportunity Scholarship meant opportunity! It allowed me to continue with my current course of study, and, combined with other grants and scholarships, it allowed me to completely place my concentration on this course. It has allowed me to breathe easy and fully engross myself in the course. It has allowed me to go to school full time and place all my focus on the course.” 

Ryan, Opportunity Scholar, Career & Technical Scholarship, Network Design & Administration, Spokane County:  

“Receiving the scholarship provides me a resource I can use to cover my living expenses while attending school. This allows me to focus on school and succeed… The [WSOS] newsletters provide information about available internships and scholarships. These could lead to a life-long career with those companies.” 

Through the Avista Foundation’s support, Scholars like Benjamin and Ryan can focus on their studies without financial strain, gaining the education and skills they need to contribute to their families, communities, and Washington’s workforce.
