As a current Washington State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS) recipient, you are required to renew your scholarship on an annual basis by completing an online form. This is also your opportunity to let us know if you graduated, or to communicate to us that you are no longer eligible.
All scholarship recipients must complete the annual Required Renewal/ Graduate form. The form will be available on the WSOS website on June 1 and must be completed by July 3.
If you do not complete the annual Required Renewal/Graduate Form and each of the steps below, you will forfeit the scholarship. View and print this checklist here.
To ensure that you fully complete the Required Renewal/Graduate process, you must:
- Complete and submit the 2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) by July 3, 2017. [Note: you can submit this form beginning 10/1/2016].
- Apply for Federal Education tax credits (including the American Opportunity tax credits) for the 2016 tax year if your family is eligible to apply for these credits. Information on these credits is here. If your family is not eligible for these tax credits, you will still be eligible for the scholarship provided you continue to meet all the renewal/update criteria.
- Complete the required 2017-2018 Washington State Opportunity Scholarship Annual Renewal/Update Form by July 3, 2017.
Please complete the form even if you have graduated or don’t think that you meet the criteria for renewal so that we know you won’t be renewing.
You will be notified of your renewal status in August. We will notify you via the email address you provide in the Required Renewal/Graduate Form. If your email address changes, notify us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
