Scholastic

I am a married mother of two, originally from Uganda, where I received a bachelor’s degree in hotel and hospitality management. I had my second child right before quarantine started. I was home for that first year, but I really wanted to go back to school. I love having clean teeth and was excited about cleaning teeth, but the dental hygiene program was very expensive. I chose to start a dental assistant program and started my pre-requisite courses online during the pandemic.
I was always bugging my school’s financial aid office, especially Alexander, my advisor. He would send me all the scholarship info he could. He sent me the info about WSOS. I wish I could send him flowers. When I got the email that I was selected for the scholarship, I screenshotted it and sent it to my mom in Uganda. I called her and she was screaming and dancing. You don’t know how much this means. I only had to apply once for this scholarship, and I am all set. It meant so much when it came through.
So many students are struggling to pay for school. This scholarship took a huge burden off my shoulders. I have been spreading the word to other students so they can apply too. I became a CTS Ambassador because I wanted to help other students go through their programs. It has been great meeting them and becoming friends.
While I was in my dental assistant program, I got an internship with a dental office. After the internship, they hired me! After I graduate in spring 2022, I plan to work for them as a dental assistant while saving money for a dental hygiene program. That’s my future goal: to become a dental hygienist. Look at me now! Working in a dental office!
