Your Role & Responsibilities:
As a Field Service Generator Technician, you will:
- Perform field inspections of generators, assessing conditions through diagnostic tests.
- Identify and repair electrical and mechanical system issues.
- Perform load bank testing and calculate kW ratings.
- Complete tune-ups and repairs identified during diagnostics.
- Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC controls, including engine controllers, automatic voltage regulators, and battery chargers.
- Repair diesel and gaseous engines, automatic transfer switches, and switchgear.
- Conduct up-fit modifications to new power generation equipment.
- Load test batteries and inspect charging systems.
- Verify generator performance, making adjustments as needed.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
- Follow safety protocols to ensure a hazard-free work environment.
What You Bring:
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
- Basic AC (110-690 VAC) and DC system fundamentals
- Experience with diesel/gaseous engines, controls, and generators
- Understanding of transfer switches and switchgear operation
- Familiarity with mechanical & electronic governors
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, motors, and transformers
- Experience using diagnostic software for troubleshooting
- Strong attention to electrical safety procedures
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate’s degree (AA) in a technical field preferred
Additional Requirements:
- Own and maintain a tool inventory appropriate for the role.
- Valid driver’s license and insurability under company policy.
- Ability to work toward obtaining an electrical license.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for customer interactions.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with electricians, contractors, and site managers.
