Life Science Washington has partnered with WSOS to provide 3 internship opportunities for WSOS Scholars from 2 companies: Altasciences and Inventprise. Internship 1: Inventprise: MSAT Internship.
Department: MSAT- PDT
Summary of Job Responsibilities:
Learn and support in Cell banking, Upstream, Downstream, Conjugation and/or Formulation manufacturing
processes and related physico-chemical and immuo-chemical analytical testing.
Essential Functions:
- Learn by shadowing different team members from MSAT or QC for different processes and analytical
testing methods including physico-chemical and immune-chemical assays. - Support execution of shake flask culture, cell banking, fermentation, clarification, tangential flow
filtration (TFF), homogenization, conjugation, chromatography techniques and/or formulation and the
relevant analytical testing, as needed. - Preparation of media, buffers and other lab accessories to run the experiments.
- Assist and support to senior staff in experiments designed towards process improvements, trouble
shooting, scale up studies as per project requirement. - Follow current GDP procedures to maintain accurate online document and complete laboratory
notebook and batch records capturing Procedures, Protocols, Results/Observations and analyzing the
data. - Able to work and follow gowning and aseptic procedures in cGMP environment, comply with all
relevant safety and cGMP procedures.
Non-Essential (Additional) Functions: - Help prepare developmental reports based on MSAT-PDT work involvement.
- Help summarize process data and the analysis of the results.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as in team setting.
- Good understanding of basic computer and presentation skills, chemistry, mathematics, and
microbiological principles, to follow. - Help organize lab facility maintaining proper organization and cleanliness.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills and extensive knowledge in the area being researched.
- Communicates the work orally, in writing and in presentation format by treating reports and data with
a high level of integrity and ethics. - Ability to troubleshoot problems, take corrective actions to solve the problem and generate results on
time.
Job Specifications:
Educational Pre-requisites: - A student of Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in scientific discipline, preferably in field of life sciences.
Physical Demands: - Must be present on site for all related responsibilities and be able to routinely perform activities as
needed. - Must be able to sit and stand unassisted for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to dress in sterile gowning in the form of scrubs and clean room coveralls.
- Ability to handle and work with potentially hazardous biologicals and chemicals per standard
operating procedure. - Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
Mental Demands: - Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Highly organized with an attention to detail.
- Must maintain high level alertness and acuity for analytical review and processing of documentation,
daily. - Able to work independently and in team settings with changing priorities.
Working Conditions: - Onsite position in Redmond or Woodinville, WA. No remote or hybrid work is available for this
position. A commute between different facilities is expected as per project requirements. - Extended periods of time on the computer.

Internship 2: Altasciences Laboratory Aide Internship
Position Title: Laboratory Aide – Formulations (Internship)
Department: Laboratory Services – Formulations
Reports To: Supervisor, Formulations

Position Summary:
The Laboratory Aide Intern will provide support to the Formulations department by performing routine laboratory tasks that are essential to the preparation, handling, and documentation of pharmaceutical formulations. This role is ideal for students pursuing education in life sciences or related disciplines who are eager to gain practical laboratory experience in a regulated environment.
This position offers a valuable opportunity to observe and assist in the formulation and handling of study-specific materials under the guidance of experienced professionals, while contributing to the overall efficiency and compliance of laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and processing of various formulations (e.g., solutions, suspensions, capsules) according to approved methods and batch records under direct supervision.
- Perform routine cleaning and upkeep of laboratory equipment, benches, and preparation areas to maintain a sterile and organized work environment.
- Wash, dry, and sterilize laboratory glassware and utensils in accordance with SOPs.
- Accurately label, store, and handle chemicals and study materials, ensuring compliance with labeling regulations and safety standards.
- Support the team in receiving, verifying, and organizing chemical inventory; replenish supplies as required.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records of daily activities, formulations, and cleaning logs in laboratory notebooks or electronic systems.
- Ensure that all work is performed following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and applicable regulatory guidelines.
- Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), spill response procedures, and safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Assist in the calibration checks and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment under supervision.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions as scheduled by the supervisor.
- Perform additional duties as required to support laboratory functions or assigned by the Formulations Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (college or university) with a focus in Biology, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
- Demonstrated interest in laboratory work and pharmaceutical research through coursework or project involvement.
- Familiarity with general lab practices, aseptic techniques, and safety protocols is preferred.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and work under supervision.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high-quality and accurate documentation.
- Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, data entry).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to chemicals, laboratory reagents, and biohazardous materials.
- Requires wearing appropriate PPE including lab coat, gloves, and safety glasses.
- May involve extended periods of standing, lifting light laboratory equipment, and performing repetitive tasks.
- Interns are expected to comply with all company safety and regulatory requirements.

Internship 3: Altasciences Research Technician Assistant Internship
Position Title: Research Technician Assistant – Scientific Services (Internship)

Position Summary:
The Research Technician Assistant Intern will support the Scientific Services department by assisting in the preparation, execution, and documentation of various research procedures and study-related tasks. This role is designed for students currently enrolled in a science-based academic program who seek to acquire hands-on experience in a dynamic, regulated research environment.
The intern will be mentored by experienced research technicians and scientists and gain exposure to clinical research methodologies, data collection procedures, and laboratory protocols, all while contributing to the successful execution of preclinical and clinical studies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of study materials and supplies, ensuring all are accurately labeled, logged, and available when needed.
- Provide support during clinical study procedures by helping prepare sample collection materials and documentation packages.
- Assist in the maintenance and organization of laboratory and sample processing areas, ensuring cleanliness and compliance with SOPs and GLP standards.
- Observe and support study activities such as biological sample handling (e.g., blood, urine), labeling, transport, and data recording under direct supervision.
- Participate in the inventory and tracking of scientific supplies and study-specific materials.
- Assist in the preparation and filing of study documentation, source documents, and regulatory binders as directed.
- Follow strict protocols and company policies related to confidentiality, safety, and data integrity.
- Communicate effectively with research staff and respond to instructions in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications:
- Actively enrolled in a college or university program in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Pre-Med, or a related discipline.
- An interest in clinical or laboratory research, demonstrated through academic coursework or extracurricular activities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in documentation and record-keeping.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely and function within a team.
- Basic understanding of lab or clinical practices and procedures is an asset.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and data entry systems is preferred.
Working Conditions:
- The work is performed in a clinical and laboratory environment with exposure to biological samples and laboratory reagents.
